Lowe becomes the hot pitcher on the market

The Derek Lowe sweepstakes continue to heat up as the Peavy-Cubs deal seems to be dead. The Cubs are still looking to move Jason Marquis in a salary dump deal and bring in another starting pitcher, possibly Lowe.

So Lowe who has been connected to the Mets, Yankees, Red Sox, Dodgers, Cardinals, and now Cubs will have some serious big time bids from the biggest teams in the game.

Marquis will likely be dealt in the next week, with the Mets being possible suitors. If the Mets were to deal for Marquis He would likely compete with Jonathon Niese, and possibly Pedro for the 5th spot in the rotation. If those three were to compete odds are Pedro would get the nod if healthy, otherwise Niese would goto the minors, and Marquis would become the longman out of the pen. The Mets would still be looking to add a number three pitcher whether it would be Lowe, Perez, or Garland.
