Santana still an injury concern

After being scratched from two starts so far this spring Johan Santana is finally sharing some good news. After rumors circulated this weekend that Santana would be flying back to New York for tests on his sore elbow, the word in PSL is that now hes feeling fine and should be back on the mound soon.

It has been a strange set of events for Santana thus far this spring. After knee surgery during the off season, Johan first teetered back and forth on whether he would pitch in the WBC, and as recent as this weekend was wondering whether he would be able to make the opening day start.

As great as it is to have your ace pitch game one, or to see Johan throw out the first ball at Citi Field, the Mets still need to remember that this is only Johan’s second year with the Mets, and they need him for the long haul this year, and in the years to follow. Manuel is right to be cautious with his ace.
