Adam Rubin of the Daily News is reporting on his blog that the Mets have come to an agreement on a minor league deal with starting pitcher Freddy Garcia. The deal could be worth as much as $8 or $9 million if he makes the team and reaches certain incentive points.
The signing of Garcia to a minor league deal adds some potential depth to the Mets starting corps, but since it’s a minor league deal he is not guaranteed a spot on the roster, and may just as easily be cut or start the year in the minors. Solid signing by Omar to bring in a veteran with some high upside.
